DIRGE is no more

25 years sharp after its foundation, we have decided to put an end to the DIRGE experience. We are aware that such a statement can sound sudden and brutal two months after the release of our brand new album, but we're convinced this is the right thing to do. First of all, we feel we have achieved with «Lost Empyrean» everything we wanted to with this band ; we have pushed our music to what we consider to be its climax, both in substance and form. From the very beginning to this very day, we have remained true and faithful to our philosophy, sticking to this costless ideal of freedom and boundless will, even if this often meant staying under the radars and out of the alternative (actually very «corporate») networks. The decision to end everything follows that logic of honesty. Honesty with us, honesty with you all. When all is said and done, there is no point to pursue the path. Of course we could have played some more shows before quitting but, to be quite honest, we are more than tired of DIYing almost everything in term of concerts and tours and we simply don't want to burn time, money and energy in such consuming plans anymore. Here lies another reason to stop. Ceasing DIRGE has been a strong and difficult decision to make, and it means a lot to us. But despite the pride and joy of completion, we can no longer ignore fatigue and discouragement after so many years. So yes, the time has come. And we think the greatest thing to do is to stop while we're still standing. DIRGE is no more, its legacy is now yours. We would like to thank all the following people, without whom things would have been vastly different. DIRGE n'est plus.

25 ans après sa création, nous avons décidé de mettre un terme à l'aventure DIRGE. Nous sommes conscients que cette annonce peut paraître soudaine et brutale deux mois après la sortie de notre nouvel album, mais il est difficile de passer outre certaines évidences. La première d'entre elles est que nous avons le sentiment d'avoir réussi avec «Lost Empyrean» à faire le tour de tout ce que nous désirions accomplir avec ce groupe ; nous y avons poussé notre musique vers ce que nous considérons être une forme d'apogée, dans le fond comme dans la forme. Dès nos débuts et jusqu'à aujourd'hui, nous sommes restés fidèles à notre philosophie de liberté et d'indépendance totales, quitte à rester dans l'ombre et à l'écart des réseaux indépendants (en réalité souvent très «corporate»). La décision de tout arrêter épouse cette même logique d'honnêteté. Honnêteté envers nous-mêmes, honnêteté envers tous ceux qui suivent le groupe. Quand tout a été dit et accompli, il n'y a plus guère de raison de continuer. Nous aurions bien sûr pu donner quelques concerts avant de tout arrêter, mais pour être tout à fait francs, nous sommes plus que fatigués de devoir tout faire et tout organiser par nous-mêmes en termes de concerts et de tournées et nous n'avons tout simplement plus le courage de consumer temps, argent et énergie dans ce genre de projets. C'est une autre raison qui nous pousse à tout arrêter. Mettre un terme à DIRGE a été une décision aussi radicale que difficile, tant elle implique de choses pour nous tous. Mais en dépit de la fierté et du sentiment d'accomplissement artistique, il nous est désormais difficile d'ignorer la fatigue et la résignation après tant d'années entièrement dédiées à ce groupe. Le moment est donc venu. Et nous pensons qu'arrêter ainsi, debout et vivants, reste en définitive la meilleure des sorties possibles... Un dernier grand merci à vous tous pour votre soutien durant ces 25 années.
